The Festival of the Paths of Francis was created to promote the Franciscan paths that cross the Upper Tiber Valley in Umbria and Tuscany, intertwining spirituality, nature, theatre, and music. For weeks, the festival has offered events spread across villages and along trails, mostly free with booking, before concluding with the grand finale.
The Main Stage of Città di Castello
The grand finale is hosted by Città di Castello, a city of art in the Province of Perugia in the Upper Tiber Valley. The Main Stage brings together theatrical performances and concerts by leading artists over three evenings, held at the Nuovo Cinema Castello and the evocative Park of Palazzo Vitelli in Sant'Egidio. These are the only paid events of the festival, while all initiatives from previous weekends are free with mandatory booking.
A Festival for the Territory
Organized by the Fondazione Progetto Valtiberina, the festival is an opportunity to discover the Upper Tiber Valley and its Franciscan dimension, combining the message of Saint Francis with a high-quality cultural offering. It is a late spring event that brings walkers, theatre enthusiasts, and lovers of author music to Città di Castello and the surrounding municipalities.
Paths of Francis — edition 2026
The tenth edition of the Festival of the Paths of Francis presents its grand finale in Città di Castello from May 29 to 31, 2026, with the Main Stage bringing together three evenings of theatre and music. After weeks of free events spread throughout the region, the festival entrusts the closing to three protagonists of the Italian scene.
It begins on Friday, May 29, with the theatrical performance by I Terconauti, continues on Saturday, May 30, with Ugo Dighero and a text by Dario Fo dedicated to Saint Francis, and concludes on Sunday, May 31, with a concert by Niccolò Fabi in the setting of the Park of Palazzo Vitelli in Sant'Egidio. These are the only paid events of the festival.

- Nuovo Cinema Castello: I Terconauti, "Una storia di autismo normale" (A Story of Normal Autism), theatrical performance on the theme of autism and neurodiversity
Saturday, May 30 — 9:30 PM
- Nuovo Cinema Castello: Ugo Dighero, "Lu Santo Jullare Francesco" (The Holy Jester Francis), text by Dario Fo on the figure of Francis of Assisi in a jester's style
Sunday, May 31 — 9:30 PM
- Park of Palazzo Vitelli in Sant'Egidio: concluding concert by Niccolò Fabi, featuring his historic repertoire and recent songs from the summer tour

How to get there
Città di Castello can be reached by car from the E45 (Cesena-Orte link), exit Città di Castello, and by train via the Ferrovia Centrale Umbra. The Main Stage events take place at the Nuovo Cinema Castello and the Park of Palazzo Vitelli in Sant'Egidio.
