Devotion to Our Lady of the Snows in Sestolese Summer
On August 5th, throughout Italy, the Feast of Our Lady of the Snows is celebrated. This commemoration is linked by Christian tradition to the miracle of the summer snowfall on the Esquiline Hill in Rome, which led to the founding of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. In Sesto Campano, a municipality in the province of Isernia on the border between Molise and Campania, this devotion also finds a place in the village's summer festival calendar.
The Festival of Our Lady of the Snows is included in the program of the Sestolese Summer, the calendar of events that the Municipality of Sesto Campano offers annually from late June to September. Among concerts, food festivals, shows, and religious feasts, the August 5th commemoration retains a devotional character that unites the community.
The celebrations in honor of Our Lady of the Snows mark the heart of the Sestolese summer, in a village that alternates religious festivals and convivial moments throughout the season. It is a fixed event that is renewed each year, an integral part of the village's identity.
The 2026 edition of the Festival of Our Lady of the Snows takes place on August 5th in Sesto Campano. The commemoration, part of the Sestolese Summer, includes religious celebrations in honor of Our Lady of the Snows.
