Faith and music by the sea in the Contrada Nasparo of the Adriatic Salento
The Festival of Our Lady of Grace and Saint Pio takes place every year at the end of June in the picturesque Contrada Nasparo, on the coast of Marina di Tiggiano, in the heart of the Adriatic Salento. Organized by a local committee with the support of the Municipality of Tiggiano, the event confirms its dual nature: on one hand, the religious observance, and on the other, a rich secular program designed to entertain residents, devotees, and visitors during the festive evenings.
The heart of the festival is the small chapel of Contrada Nasparo, overlooking the sea just a stone's throw from the historic Torre Nasparo, one of the most fascinating stretches of the coast between Tiggiano and Corsano. In this setting, amidst cliffs and crystal-clear waters, the celebration of mass combines spiritual reflection with the scenic beauty of this corner of Puglia, where farming and maritime traditions have been renewed for over thirty years.
Alongside the religious rites, the festival offers a musical lineup deeply rooted in Salento culture. There is no shortage of brass band concerts, true staples of the Apulian festive tradition, and evenings dedicated to pizzica and folk music, with tambourines, vocals, and dances animating the district until late at night. It is a way to rediscover the repertoire of the South and experience the authentic community spirit of this land.
Born in the nineties as a local district festival, the Nasparo event has become an identity-defining appointment for Tiggiano and the neighboring municipalities of the Capo di Leuca. Each edition attracts families, returning emigrants, and tourists drawn by the intimate and genuine atmosphere, far from large-scale events but capable of telling, better than many others, the soul of Salento and its popular devotion.
The 2026 edition confirmed the dual soul of the festival, balancing devotion and entertainment. On Saturday, June 27, the day opened with the Cittร di Ruffano Brass Band Concert at 5:30 PM, followed by mass at 7:45 PM in the Contrada Nasparo chapel, and in the evening, a traditional music and dance performance by Gli amici della pizzica at 9:00 PM. On Sunday, June 28, the festival continued with Makaria - Folk Music at 9:00 PM and the Carrisi nel Sole Tour, a tribute to Al Bano, closing the event. During both evenings, the free shuttle bus from the Church of Christ the Redeemer in Tiggiano was in operation.
Free shuttle service from the Church of Christ the Redeemer in Tiggiano, with departures from 7:00 PM.
Contrada Nasparo is located on the coast of Marina di Tiggiano, in the province of Lecce. By car, it can be reached via the SP358 road towards the coast; parking is available near Torre Nasparo.
During the festival evenings, a free shuttle bus service runs from the Church of Christ the Redeemer (Chiesa di Cristo Redentore) in Tiggiano to the chapel, with departures starting at 7:00 PM.
Comfortable clothing is recommended for the coastal area, and please respect the areas designated for religious services. The nearest train station is Tricase, served by the Ferrovie del Sud Est lines.
