The grand food and wine journey through the Monti Dauni in the heart of Lucera
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Festival of Festivals is the premier food and wine event that brings the historic center of Lucera to life every September. Located in the Monti Dauni area of the Foggia province in Apulia, this celebration was established in 2013 by the Pro Loco of Lucera. It unites the region's many local festivals and culinary traditions into one grand event, offering visitors an authentic journey through the flavors of Daunia.
The heart of the event is a long food and wine trail winding through the ancient city center: starting at Piazza Tribunali, it continues along Via Zuppetta and Piazza Nocelli, ending at Piazza Duomo, right at the foot of the stunning Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Along the way, dozens of food stalls offer specialties from the towns of the Monti Dauni and the province of Foggia.
Signature dishes always include Lucera's acquasale, scagliozzi, cavatelli, and local cheeses and cured meats like the prosciutto di Faeto, paired with regional wines and oils, such as the local Lucera olive oil. Each stall represents a different festival and town, creating a vibrant showcase of Daunia's gastronomic excellence.
The Festival of Festivals offers more than just great food: the evenings are filled with live music, folk dance groups, flag-wavers, and street performers who entertain visitors along the entire route. The festive atmosphere, combined with the beauty of Lucera's historic center, has made this one of the most popular events in the entire Foggia province, drawing thousands of people from across the Capitanata and Monti Dauni regions.
Over the years, the Festival of Festivals has become a staple of the city's calendar and a vital driver for tourism and the promotion of local products. The event highlights small-scale local producers and offers residents and tourists alike the chance to rediscover folk traditions and the authentic cuisine of the Daunia villages, all set against the evocative backdrop of the Frederickian city of Lucera.
The 2026 edition of the Festival of Festivals in Lucera is currently in preparation. At the moment, the Pro Loco of Lucera has not yet finalized the dates for the new edition, which is usually held in September. As per tradition, the historic center will host the culinary trail between Piazza Tribunali and Piazza Duomo, featuring Monti Dauni specialties, music, and folk dancing. The detailed program will be published as soon as it becomes available.
The Festival of Festivals takes place in the historic center of Lucera (FG), along the route from Piazza Tribunali to Piazza Duomo, passing through Via Zuppetta and Piazza Nocelli.
The event is traditionally held in September over two evenings, starting around 8:00 PM.
Entry to the historic center is free; for tastings along the route, visitors can purchase a kit containing vouchers for dishes, drinks, and sweets at designated points.
Lucera is accessible by car via the SS17 and is approximately 18 km from Foggia. During the event, the historic center is pedestrianized; it is recommended to use the parking areas located on the outskirts of the center.
