A day of walks, music, and art through the woods and valleys of Modigliana
The Festival of Agrourban Paths is an event that is not watched from a seated position: it is experienced step by step. In Modigliana, a small village in the Apennines in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, in the heart of Tuscan Romagna, the festival transforms woods, ridges, and farms into a widespread stage. The idea is both simple and radical: to make the territory a space for exploration, listening, and collective construction of new narratives. Walking thus becomes a cultural gesture, a way to re-establish the bond between people, places, and the memory of this Apennine land.
The heart of the day is the Cantico Path, a loop of about 11 kilometers that follows CAI routes 572A and 572. Along the trail, amidst woods and views of Monte Pompegno and the Monte San Bartolo ridge, you will find stops marked by concerts, performances, artistic installations, and tastings. Guiding the walk is the Narrated Atlas, a small guide that accompanies the hiker, telling stories, sounds, and suggestions of each place visited. It is not a simple excursion, but a sensory journey in which music suddenly arises in a clearing and art hides among the trees.
For those who do not want to tackle the entire loop, the Capuchin Friars' Convent on Monte Castellano, above the village, becomes the festival's base camp. Here, picnics on the meadows, craft markets, concerts, cinema in the woods, holistic activities, children's workshops, and meeting moments are concentrated. It is the place where families and less-trained visitors can experience the day in a relaxed way, immersed in greenery but just a few minutes from the center.
The festival, now in its fifth edition in 2026, is the flagship project of the Agrourban Paths, an initiative that the Municipality of Modigliana is pursuing together with Trail Romagna and the Agrourbana APS association. Over the years, the event has intertwined slow tourism, landscape enhancement, and participatory artistic creation, with editions dedicated to Monte del Tesoro and author walks. It is an experience designed for those seeking an authentic Emilia-Romagna, made of silent ridges, ancient convents, and a community that tells its story through its land.
The 2026 edition of the Agrourban Paths festival was themed The Year of the Cantico and invited participants to explore the Modigliana area along a route marked by art and diffused music. A single day, Sunday, June 7, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, experienced between the path and the base camp.
Along the 11 km loop, guided by the Narrated Atlas, hikers encountered the concert by Clemente Guidi at Bosco Studio, the Indian flute of Fabio Mina, the Romagnol Haikus by Alberta Tedioli, an artistic installation on the ridge, and the manouche trio Scaricatori with a wine tasting at the Lu.Va vineyard.
Also scheduled were three guided tours, including two dedicated to the bicentennial of the birth of painter Silvestro Lega, a symbolic figure of Modigliana. At the Capuchin Friars' Convent, stories and music with Francesco Bentini, workshops for children, holistic activities, and markets accompanied the entire day.
Modigliana can be reached by car from the via Emilia (exit Faenza or Forlì on the A14) by going up the Marzeno valley. The base camp is at the Capuchin Friars' Convent, on Monte Castellano above the village.
Shuttle service from Piazza Cesare Battisti to the path stops, with departures every 15 minutes from approximately 8:00 AM to 10:45 AM. Estimated cost from 6 to 10 euros depending on the package (with atlas or guided tour).
Wear trekking shoes and bring water: the Cantico Path is about 11 km long with an elevation gain of a few hundred meters. Several activities require booking.
