Dances and traditions from around the world in the village of Giove
The International Folklore Festival of Giove is one of the most characteristic summer events in the province of Terni. For a week in July, the village of Giove welcomes international folk groups — over the years from Poland, Romania, Slovakia, India, China, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Taiwan, and various Italian regions — who bring the dances, music, and costumes of their lands to the square.
The festival, organised by the Associazione Corteo Storico di Giove (Historical Parade Association of Giove), intertwines folklore with historical reenactment. Among the unmissable events are the candle ceremony, the historical costume parade, and performances by flag-wavers and musicians, which bring the atmosphere of the medieval village back to life.
The evenings are enlivened by taverns serving typical dishes, wine bars, and snacks, as well as shows by the guest groups. The Folklore Festival is thus an occasion for cultural exchange and a great community celebration, capable of enhancing Giove's identity and the popular traditions of the Umbria Region, opening them up to the world.
The 18th edition of the International Folklore Festival of Giove is scheduled from July 12th to 19th, 2026. For a week, the village of Giove (province of Terni) hosts folk groups from various parts of Italy and abroad, with traditional dances, music, and costumes.
The festival, organised by the Associazione Corteo Storico di Giove, alternates performances by guest groups with events of a historical reenactment nature, such as the candle ceremony, the historical costume parade, and performances by flag-wavers and musicians. The evenings are enlivened by taverns serving typical dishes, wine bars, and snacks.
The detailed program for each day and the list of participating groups will be released by the organisation in the weeks preceding the event.
Giove is located in the lower Tiber Valley, in the province of Terni, near the border with Lazio. By car, it can be reached from the SS205 Amerina or the A1 motorway (Orte or Attigliano exits). The festival takes place in the historic centre of the village.
The event is organised by the Associazione Corteo Storico di Giove. Free admission to the shows; food and drinks at the taverns are paid.
