The historic festival of songs in the Friulian language returns to Piazza Libertà in Udine
The Festival della Canzone Friulana is one of the oldest and most beloved musical events in Friuli: a singing competition entirely dedicated to new songs in the Friulian language, the marilenghe. Born in 1959, the festival has witnessed the region's history, promoting the creativity of singer-songwriters and composers who choose to express themselves in Friuli's identity language.
After a six-year break, the event returns in 2026 thanks to the commitment of the Fondazione Friuli and regional institutions, with the final hosted in the heart of Udine, in Piazza Libertà, as part of the grand Friuli Doc festival. Fifteen finalists present their new songs accompanied by a live orchestra conducted by Maestro Rudy Fantin, in an evening that blends tradition and new voices.
The festival is much more than a musical competition: it's an opportunity to demonstrate the vitality of the Friulian language and its ability to become contemporary song, blending pop, singer-songwriter styles, and folk sounds. The setting of Piazza Libertà — described as the most beautiful Venetian square on the mainland — and the festive atmosphere of Friuli Doc make the evening a moment of great popular participation.
Bringing the Festival della Canzone Friulana back to the stage means relaunching a precious cultural heritage and giving new voice to the region's musical creativity. For music lovers and those who cherish Friulian culture, the final in Piazza Libertà is an unmissable event, capable of uniting generations under the banner of the marilenghe.
