About Festival del Mito

Festival del Mito is the summer theater and cultural festival that brings Brindisi to life between the Cloister of the Francesco Ribezzo Provincial Archaeological Museum, overlooking Piazza Duomo, and the Santa Spazio Culturale, the former Convent of Santa Chiara. Conceived by Ergo Sum Produzioni, the festival reinterprets great classical myths through contemporary theater, dance, music, and workshops. The 2026 edition, titled "Myths and Women," is dedicated to the female figures of mythology—Medea, Penelope, Ariadne, and Arachne—featuring national premieres and prominent guests.

Festival del Mito in Brindisi

Festival del Mito is the summer festival that brings great mythological storytelling to the heart of Brindisi, in Puglia. Launched in 2025 by Ergo Sum Produzioni, the festival transforms some of the city's most evocative locations—the Cloister of the "Francesco Ribezzo" Provincial Archaeological Museum, overlooking Piazza Duomo, and the Santa Spazio Culturale, housed in the former Convent of Santa Chiara—into stages where classical myths speak to today's audience.

"Myths and Women": the 2026 edition

From July 2 to 16, 2026, the festival focuses on the theme "Myths and Women," dedicated to the great female figures of classical tradition. Medea, Penelope, Ariadne, and Arachne become the common thread for performances, workshops, and meetings that explore the feminine through both archetypes and contemporary issues. The artistic direction is entrusted to Alessandra Pizzi, who directs several of the scheduled titles and alternates national premieres with spoken theater, music, and folk dance.

A widespread festival in the historic center

The formula of Festival del Mito is that of a "widespread festival": events move between the city museum's cloister and the spaces of the former convent, highlighting Brindisi's historical and archaeological heritage as a natural backdrop for the stage. The public is invited not only to attend evening performances but also to take part in daytime workshops, dedicated, for example, to reading aloud or the connection between the myth of Arachne and the Salento pizzica.

Theater, music, and dance

Alongside theatrical performances, the festival makes space for Mediterranean music and dance, with evenings such as "La Ronda di Aracne," as well as moments for in-depth discussion and shared storytelling. The result is a multidisciplinary journey that weaves together stage performance, popular tradition, and contemporary reflection on myth and its female-centered narrative.

Organization

Festival del Mito is organized by Ergo Sum Produzioni in collaboration with the Polo Biblio-Museale of Brindisi, the Ribezzo Museum, the Fondazione Nuovo Teatro Verdi, the Municipality of Brindisi, and Puglia Culture, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Puglia Region.
