The festival of the patron saint of Giove between faith and tradition
The Festeggiamenti di San Giovanni Battista celebrate the patron saint of Giove, a village in the province of Terni in the Tiber Valley. The main anniversary is June 24th, the day of Saint John the Baptist's nativity, around which a rich religious and civil program revolves.
The religious part includes a three-day triduum of preparation with rosary and mass, leading up to June 24th, marked by bell ringing, masses, and the solemn celebration, with blessings dedicated to wedding anniversaries and those named Giovanni. A distinctive feature is the ancient offering of the votive candle and the procession that crosses the village districts, with stops at the sanctuary of San Giovanni and the church of San Rocco.
Alongside the devotional dimension, the celebrations also have a popular and civil aspect: the historical parade, the musical band, and concerts by nationally famous artists liven up the evenings, attracting residents and visitors. It is the occasion when the entire community of Giove comes together around its roots, in a festival that blends the sacred and the profane in the best tradition of the villages of the Umbria Region.
