The patronal festival of Attigliano in honour of Saint Lawrence the Martyr
Nestled on the banks of the Tiber, on the southern border of Umbria with Lazio, the Municipality of Attigliano (in the province of Terni) celebrates its patron saint, Saint Lawrence the Martyr, every summer. The festival takes place around August 10th, a date that Christian tradition associates with the martyrdom of the Roman deacon, and represents the most anticipated moment of the year for the community.
The religious celebrations are organised by the parish and the "Don Bruno Medori" Schola cantorum of Attigliano. The liturgical programme includes a triduum of preparation on the preceding evenings, a procession with the statue of the saint through the village streets, and a solemn Eucharistic celebration on the patron saint's day.
Alongside the religious part, the San Lorenzo Martire Festival Committee organises a rich entertainment programme: musical evenings, shows, performances, food stalls with traditional dishes, and festive moments that liven up the historic centre for several days. Over the years, the festival has also hosted themed performances, musical groups, and concerts.
Attigliano is a small village in Lower Umbria, a crossroads between the provinces of Terni, Viterbo, and Tuscia. The patronal festival is an opportunity to discover this little-known corner of the region, where popular devotion and hospitality blend into a deeply felt celebration.
For 2026, the celebrations in honour of Saint Lawrence the Martyr will take place over the first ten days of August. The liturgical part includes the triduum of preparation on the evenings of August 7th, 8th, and 9th, and on the patron saint's day, Tuesday, August 10th, the morning procession with the statue of the saint through the village streets and the solemn celebration of Holy Mass.
The civil programme – musical evenings, shows, performances, and food stalls in the historic centre – is defined by the Festival Committee and published on the dedicated Facebook page in the weeks leading up to the festival.
Attigliano is located along the A1 motorway (Attigliano-Bomarzo exit) and is served by the Attigliano-Bomarzo railway station on the Rome-Florence line, a short walk from the centre. The village is in the province of Terni, on the border with Lazio.
Free admission to all events. The religious programme is managed by the parish (Diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia); the civil programme by the Festival Committee. Updates on the dedicated Facebook page.
