Legambiente's festival for the South in the Itria Valley
FestambienteSud is the major multidisciplinary festival organized by the Legambiente circle, which for over twenty years has intertwined music, literature, theatre, guided tours, tastings, and workshops with a commitment to the environment and the promotion of Southern territories. Born in the Gargano area, the festival has evolved over the years into a widespread event that travels across Puglia every summer, bringing international artists to locations of great natural and scenic value.
The Itria Valley stop is held in Martina Franca, in the heart of the Taranto province, at the evocative Masseria Mangiato. Here, the festival offers two evenings of world music, with doors opening at 6:00 PM for tours, local product tastings, and workshops before the evening concerts. This format combines live performance with the discovery of the Apulian rural landscape, featuring olive trees, dry-stone walls, and trulli.
The 2026 edition, the twenty-second, is titled «Out of Africa – Desert, oases and caravans, at the boundaries of the climate». It is the second chapter of a three-year journey dedicated to the African continent: a voyage of sounds, words, and images starting from the Sahara and arriving in the heart of Puglia to share desert cultures and reflect on climate change and migration.
True to the spirit of Legambiente, FestambienteSud is not just a concert lineup. Alongside big names in world music, there are meetings, forums on biodiversity and sustainable mobility, book presentations, environmental education workshops, and excursions. The festival thus proposes a model of sustainable culture that fosters dialogue between art, nature, and community.
The 2026 edition runs from July 10 to August 3 between the Itria Valley and the Gargano, also touching Monte Sant'Angelo, Vieste, the Foresta Umbra, and other municipalities of the Gargano National Park. Martina Franca opens the calendar with the first two evenings, confirming its role as the gateway to the festival in the southern part of Puglia.
The twenty-second edition of FestambienteSud begins its journey in the Itria Valley, at the Masseria Mangiato in Martina Franca, with two evenings dedicated to desert music. On July 10, the Tamikrest band, a symbol of Tuareg desert blues, takes the stage; on July 11, it is the turn of the Malian artist Vieux Farka Touré, heir to the tradition of his father, Ali Farka Touré.
Both days open at 6:00 PM with tours, local product tastings, and workshops, allowing visitors to experience the festival during the day while immersed in the Martina Franca countryside. Concerts are ticketed, with tickets available on Vivaticket.
The Martina Franca evenings kick off a calendar that, under the title «Out of Africa – Desert, oases and caravans», continues until August 3 between the Itria Valley and the Gargano.
Martina Franca can be reached by car via the SS172 dei Trulli; the nearest train stations are served by Ferrovie del Sud Est. The reference airports are Bari-Palese and Brindisi-Casale.
Concerts are ticketed: tickets can be purchased online via Vivaticket and at authorized sales points. Evening activities start at 6:00 PM with tours, tastings, and workshops.
