Saint John the Baptist, patron saint of Montevecchia

Perched on the hills of the Park of Montevecchia and the Curone Valley, in the Province of Lecco, the village of Montevecchia celebrates its patron saint on the day of the Martyrdom of Saint John the Baptist, August 29th. The parish church, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist Martyr, stands halfway up Via Belvedere, in a panoramic position overlooking Brianza.

On the churchyard, a balloon—a sphere covered in cotton, suspended by a thread—is burned in a symbolic gesture recalling the saint's martyrdom.
