About Palio di Santa Giustina

Imagine floats up to four metres high, entirely covered in flowers, parading illuminated through the streets of a small Brianza village at night. This is the Palio dei Carri Biblici Fiorati of Bellusco, the heart of the Sagra di Santa Giustina: a tradition born in 1955 where the village's districts compete in creating spectacular floats inspired by biblical themes. Day and night parades accompanied by musical bands, the patronal mass, a funfair, and a fireworks display make this event one of the most beloved in the province of Monza and Brianza.

A tradition blooming for over half a century

The Sagra di Santa Giustina with the Palio dei Carri Biblici Fiorati is the defining event of Bellusco, in the province of Monza and Brianza. Born in 1955, it celebrates the patron saint, Saint Giustina (on the second Sunday of September) and features extraordinary biblical-themed floats created by the village's districts.

The districts and their floats

The districts of Bellusco โ€” Bergamo, Dante and Camuzzago, Castello, Garibaldi and San Martino, Cantone and San Nazzaro โ€” have their roots in the ancient 'Corti', the rural settlements on which the village was formed. Each year, they compete in building flower-covered floats up to four metres high, true 'beasts' that require months of work. A jury evaluates the setup, the illuminated effect, and adherence to the biblical theme, declaring the winning district.

Day and night parades

The highlight is the parade of the floats through the streets of the town centre, accompanied by musical bands. The 'night parade', with illuminated floats winding through the village, is particularly evocative. The programme also includes the patronal Holy Mass, a funfair, and a fireworks display.

Bellusco and the Brianza region

Bellusco, a small municipality in Brianza, transforms into an open-air stage for the festival. The Palio di Santa Giustina is one of the most spectacular traditional folk events in the province of Monza and Brianza, successfully blending faith, floral art, and inter-district competitive spirit.

Palio di Santa Giustina โ€” edition 2026

The Sagra di Santa Giustina with the Palio dei Carri Biblici Fiorati returns to Bellusco in September 2026, around the second Sunday of the month. The districts compete with their spectacular biblical-themed flower-covered floats, starring in day and night parades accompanied by musical bands, with the patronal mass, a funfair, and fireworks.

The 2026 edition of the Sagra di Santa Giustina is expected in September, following the tradition that links the festival to the second Sunday of the month and the patron saint, Saint Giustina. Bellusco's districts return to compete with their biblical flower-covered floats, up to four metres high.

Precise dates and detailed programme will be published by the Palio Committee in the months preceding the event, on the official website.
