Illuminated allegorical boats on Lake Piediluco
The Festa delle Acque takes place in Piediluco, a picturesque lakeside hamlet of Terni located on the border between Umbria and Lazio. The event celebrates the summer solstice and has its roots in ancient times when the lake's inhabitants honoured water deities, particularly Neptune, through decorated ritual boats. This tradition continues to make the festival one of the most characteristic events in the Terni area.
The heart of the event is the night parade of illuminated allegorical boats on the lake: a friendly, non-competitive race among the "artisans of the lake", who build spectacular vessels. The parade is historically followed by a water show. Along the shores, there is also the infiorata (flower carpet display) with a competition for floral decorations in the village streets and numerous collateral initiatives.
The programme spans several weekends and includes concerts, theatre and dance performances, exhibitions, bike tours, book presentations, yoga by the lake, and a fish festival (sagra del pesce). Organised by the Pro Loco of Piediluco, the Festa delle Acque is a summer event that combines spectacle, tradition, and the unique natural setting of Lake Piediluco.
The 2026 edition of the Festa delle Acque renews the celebration of the summer solstice on Lake Piediluco. The event, organised by the Pro Loco of Piediluco, features the historic night parade of illuminated allegorical boats, a friendly competition among the lake's artisans, along with concerts, theatre and dance performances, exhibitions, lakeside activities, and a lake fish festival.
The dates and detailed programme will be published shortly before the event on the official website and via the Pro Loco's channels.
The detailed programme for the Festa delle Acque 2026 is being finalised. The event, spread over several days between late July and early August, traditionally includes:
