About Calvi Festival

The Calvi Festival is the major summer performing arts event that transforms the village of Calvi dell'Umbria, in the province of Terni, into a widespread stage for over a month. Theatre, cinema, dance, concerts, talks, and exhibitions follow one another in the squares, alleys, and panoramic views of the historic center, with a quality program curated by artistic director Francesco Verdinelli. An event that blends major names in Italian entertainment with attention to current issues.

A village that becomes a stage

The Calvi Festival is the main cultural event in Calvi dell'Umbria, a village in the province of Terni overlooking the valley that marks the border between Umbria and Lazio. For over a month, from early August to early September, the entire historic center becomes a widespread stage: squares, alleys, terraces, and panoramic viewpoints host performances, screenings, and talks.

A multidisciplinary program

The festival, artistically directed by Francesco Verdinelli, blends different genres and languages: theatre (including Greek theatre), dance, concerts, cinema, literary talks, and exhibitions. Each edition brings renowned names from the Italian theatre and music scene to Calvi, with a focus on current topics such as the environment and medicine.

Cinema, music, and tradition

Among the recurring events are Calvi Cinema every Monday, featuring great films curated by the Viatores Umbro Sabini association, and moments linked to popular tradition, such as the tammuriata. The event also includes the Notte del Labirinto (Night of the Labyrinth), an itinerant event in the historic center organized by the Pro Loco. The Calvi Festival is a benchmark for summer cultural tourism in southern Umbria.

Calvi Festival — edition 2026

The 10th edition of the Calvi Festival takes place from August 1 to September 6, 2026, in Calvi dell'Umbria, under the artistic direction of Francesco Verdinelli. The program includes theatre (with Massimo Dapporto, Pino Strabioli, and Benedetta Buccellato), Greek theatre, tammuriata, a tribute to Franco Battiato, cinema, dance, art, and literature, culminating in the grand finale concert with the Italian Navy Band.

The Calvi Festival 2026 celebrates its first ten years with a special edition, running from August 1 to September 6. Artistic direction is entrusted to Francesco Verdinelli, who presents a program capable of blending different styles, trends, and genres. The village of Calvi dell'Umbria (TR) transforms into a widespread stage across its squares, alleys, and panoramic terraces.
