Trekking, outdoor sports and autumn flavours between Pollino and Lucanian Apennines
In Castelsaraceno, a village in the province of Potenza nestled between the Pollino National Park and the Lucanian Apennines Val d'Agri-Lagonegrese Park, the Festa della Montagna closes the outdoor season with a weekend dedicated to nature, sport, and autumn flavours.
The programme features guided excursions to Monte Alpi and Monte Raparo with AIGAE environmental guides, e-bike tours between the two parks, horse riding activities, and spectacular falconry displays with birds of prey in flight. An opportunity to experience the Lucanian mountains in all their forms, suitable for families, sports enthusiasts, and nature lovers.
The delicious heart of the festival is the Sagra dei Sapori Autunnali (Festival of Autumn Flavours), with food and wine stalls and a market of typical local products: truffles, mushrooms, and chestnuts from the Park, cheeses, cured meats, and Lucanian specialities prepared by the village's home cooks.
Organised by the Pro Loco Castelsaraceno, the Festa della Montagna is also an opportunity to discover a village that houses the world's longest Tibetan bridge and one of the most beautiful trail networks in Southern Italy, in the most authentic heart of inner Basilicata.
The 2026 edition of the Festa della Montagna is scheduled, as is tradition, for the latter part of October in Castelsaraceno. Following the XVI edition held on October 25-26, 2025, the Pro Loco Castelsaraceno is expected to announce the dates and final programme for the new edition, which will again feature guided excursions, e-biking, horse riding, falconry, and the festival of autumn flavours with typical local products.
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Pro Loco Castelsaraceno in the coming weeks.
Based on previous editions, the event includes: guided excursions to Monte Alpi and Monte Raparo with environmental guides, e-bike tours, horse riding activities, falconry displays, and the Sagra dei Sapori Autunnali (Festival of Autumn Flavours) with food and wine stalls and a market of typical products (truffles, mushrooms, chestnuts).
The most anticipated moments: the guided excursions on the mountains of Pollino and the Lucanian Apennines, the falconry displays, and the festival of autumn flavours.
How to get there: Castelsaraceno (PZ) is reachable by car from the SS653 Sinnica or the Val d'Agri, about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Potenza.
Admission: free participation; some guided sports activities may require booking with the Pro Loco.
Accommodation: B&Bs and farm stays in the village and in the surroundings of the two national parks.
