About Festa della Frustica

Every summer, the Festa della Frustica brings the village of Faleria, in the heart of the Viterbo Tuscia region, to life with its National Majorette and Marching Band Competition. This unique Italian event features majorettes performing to the live accompaniment of a marching band. Organized by the La Frustica musical-folkloric association, founded in 1993, the festival attracts groups from all over the country for a day of vibrant colors, choreography, and popular tradition in the village square.

The Festa della Frustica in Faleria

Every year at the end of June, the small village of Faleria, in the province of Viterbo, transforms into the stage for one of the most distinctive folkloric events in the Lazio region. The Festa della Frustica centers on the National Majorette and Marching Band Competition, an event that has become a benchmark for majorette and band enthusiasts across Italy.

For one day, the historic town square fills with sparkling uniforms, twirling batons, and colorful pom-poms, while the notes of the bands set the rhythm for the performances. It is a village festival in the most authentic sense, yet one capable of drawing groups from various regions of the peninsula.

A unique competition in Italy

What makes the Faleria competition special is a feature unmatched anywhere else in the country: it is the only Italian competition where majorettes perform accompanied live by a marching band. This element tests both technical preparation and, above all, the athletes' ability to synchronize with the tempo dictated by the instruments.

Each group follows a course combining marching and choreography: the baton parade along the track set up in the square, followed by a quick transition to the pom-pom performance, all in perfect harmony with the band's rhythm. A jury evaluates technique, choreography, and synchronization, determining the final rankings awarded at the end of the day.

La Frustica: over thirty years of music and folklore

The competition is organized by the G. Verdi Musical Association – La Frustica Folk Group, a historic institution in Faleria founded in 1993. Born as a choreographic marching band and folk group, La Frustica boasts over thirty years of continuous activity, with performances throughout Italy and abroad, from New Year's parades to band festivals in Germany and Belgium.

The Festa della Frustica was born from this very musical and folkloric vocation, blending the association's passion for bands and choreography with the local community's spirit of togetherness.

Faleria and the Viterbo Tuscia

Faleria is a village of ancient origins nestled in the hills of Tuscia, the northern part of the Lazio region within the province of Viterbo. The town, with its castle and historic center, offers the ideal setting for an event that weaves together entertainment, popular tradition, and conviviality.

Those attending the festival can take the opportunity to discover a territory rich in history, including Faliscan necropolises, medieval villages, and rural landscapes, just a short distance from better-known destinations like Civita Castellana and Lake Vico.

A day for the whole family

The Festa della Frustica is an outdoor, free event suitable for all ages. The majorette performances, the colors of the uniforms, and the music of the bands create a lively and festive atmosphere that engages both adults and children. A genuine way to experience the Lazio summer in the spirit of tradition.
