The feast of the Capuchin friars of Corinaldo, between faith, tradition, and shows in the convent park
In June, when the Church celebrates the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Convent of the Capuchin Friars in Corinaldo becomes the centre of one of the most deeply rooted religious festivals in the area. It is a popular event in the truest sense: organised by the Community of the Capuchin Fathers together with the organising committee, it brings together the people of Corinaldo and the faithful from the nearby villages of the Nevola valley around the convent.
The feast opens with a triduum of preparation, marked by morning holy masses and led by a Capuchin preacher. The main day, Sunday, is entirely dedicated to celebrations: masses are held from early morning until noon, with moments reserved for men and young people, the elderly and the sick, and the solemn mass presided over by the Provincial Father of the Capuchins, accompanied by the parish choir. In the afternoon, the solemn procession with the statue of the Sacred Heart takes place along the streets around the convent, accompanied by the town band.
Alongside the spiritual dimension, the Feast of the Sacred Heart retains its festive and family-friendly character. In the evenings, the convent park hosts shows: the performance of the "L'Araba Fenice" Drums and Flag-Wavers group from Corinaldo, with its flag-throwing displays and drum rhythms, and the "Frate Mago" (Magic Friar) show, which entertains young and old with its magic tricks. On weekend afternoons, a refreshment stand is set up with piadina and other specialities, offering an opportunity to stop and chat in the shade of the convent's trees.
The feast takes place in Corinaldo, in the province of Ancona, in the Marche region: one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, famous for its 15th-century walls, among the best-preserved in the region, and for being the birthplace of Saint Maria Goretti. Participating in the Feast of the Sacred Heart means experiencing a living and popular tradition, far from mass tourist circuits, and discovering at the same time the serene atmosphere of a convent and the hospitality of a community in the Marche region. Admission to all events is free.
The Feast of the Sacred Heart 2026 at the Convent of the Capuchin Friars in Corinaldo spans five days, from the initial triduum to the concluding mass on Monday. The Capuchin community offers a program that combines liturgical celebrations, the procession with the statue of the Sacred Heart, and festive moments in the convent park, with free admission to all events.
