The prized chestnut takes centre stage in the hillside hamlet of Valrovina
The Festa del Maron is held every autumn in Valrovina, one of the hillside hamlets of Bassano del Grappa, in the province of Vicenza. The absolute star is the maron, the prized chestnut that grows on the chestnut groves of the Alto Bassanese and which gave the event its name.
The festival has its roots in 1974, when a small group of villagers decided to celebrate the third Sunday of October with some roasted chestnuts and a glass of new wine. From that simple idea, one of the most beloved autumn festivals in the area has grown, today curated by the Associazione Il Castagno with the help of the entire community of Valrovina.
In addition to the unmissable chestnut tastings and traditional dishes, the programme includes dialect theatre, conferences, concerts, and cultural moments. The delicious heart of the festival is the maron-based dessert competition, the "Dolse al Maron", where the village's cooks compete with secret recipes, and the giant community dessert prepared for the occasion.
The Festa del Maron is, first and foremost, a village festival, where volunteerism and collective spirit remain the true driving force. Set up in the streets and squares of Valrovina, it offers visitors the authentic atmosphere of the Venetian hills in autumn, with the aroma of roasted chestnuts and glasses of new wine.
The 2026 edition of the Festa del Maron in Valrovina is confirmed by the Associazione Il Castagno, which began preparations with a dedicated evening on March 26, 2026. The event maintains its usual mid-October slot, featuring traditional chestnut tastings, new wine, and chestnut-based dessert competitions.
The detailed programme, with exact dates and cultural events, will be published in the weeks preceding the event on the Valrovina website.
