Three days of fresh porcini mushrooms and merriment at the Baita del Fondista
In the heart of autumn, when the woods of the Varese Prealps offer their mushrooms, Cunardo celebrates the porcino with a festival that is now a classic of the Alto Varesotto. The Festa del Fungo, now in its twenty-third edition, is organized by the folk group I Tencitt and takes place at the Baita del Fondista, immersed in the greenery of this municipality in the Province of Varese.
The absolute star is the fresh porcino mushroom, featured in every dish: polenta with mushrooms, risotto, tagliatelle, lasagne, fritters, and braised meat. It's a generous and traditional mountain cuisine, prepared by the group's volunteers, which attracts enthusiasts and gourmets from all over the province and beyond every year.
Behind the festival is the folk group I Tencitt, a historic entity from Cunardo that preserves and promotes local traditions. The Festa del Fungo is their most important event of the year: an event that combines gastronomy, merriment, and a sense of community, capable of transforming the Baita del Fondista into a meeting point for thousands of people.
Experiencing the Festa del Fungo is also an opportunity to discover Cunardo and its territory, nestled in the Varese Prealps and just a stone's throw from the famous Grotte di Cunardo. A corner of Lombardy where the culture of the woods and mushrooms is part of the local identity, and where autumn is experienced at the table, in good company.
The 23rd Festa del Fungo in Cunardo returns from September 11 to 13, 2026, at the Baita del Fondista, organized by the folk group I Tencitt.
Three days dedicated to fresh porcini mushrooms: polenta, risotto, tagliatelle, lasagne, fritters, and braised meat. Friday and Saturday, the kitchen opens at 7:00 PM, Sunday lunch from 12:00 PM and dinner from 7:00 PM.
All dishes are prepared with fresh porcini mushrooms. In case of bad weather, the festival takes place indoors.
