A month of celebration in the village of Caldana

Every autumn, the hamlet of Caldana di Cocquio-Trevisago, in the province of Varese, transforms into a widespread stage: for all Sundays in October, from 10 am to 6 pm, the streets and courtyards of the village host "Ottobre a Caldana", a historic event organised by SOMS Caldana (Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso - Workers' Mutual Aid Society). The 2025 edition marked the 50th anniversary, testifying to a deeply rooted tradition.

Chestnut roasting and autumn flavours

The heart of the festival is the chestnut roasting (castagnata), accompanied by a food stall with typical seasonal dishes, traditional desserts, and local specialities. Alongside the flavours, you'll find crafts, artisan products, exhibitions, and displays that liven up the historic centre all day long.

Culture, art, and workshops

"Ottobre a Caldana" is not just about food: every Sunday offers art exhibitions, creative workshops for children, theatre performances, and guided tours through historic courtyards and museums. The event is organised by SOMS in collaboration with local organisations such as Menta&Rosmarino, Atelier Capricornio, and CAI Tognola, with a programme that changes from week to week.

A tradition of mutual aid

The event is managed by the Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso of Caldana, one of the village's historic institutions, which keeps alive a tradition of community and solidarity. For the 50th anniversary, a commemorative Raku ceramic magnet was also produced. "Ottobre a Caldana" is today one of the most beloved autumn events in the Varese region, successfully combining culture, environment, and conviviality.
