The fast rowing races on Lake Varese
The Italian Sprint Rowing Championship takes place on Lake Varese, in Gavirate (Province of Varese), one of the most renowned basins for rowing in Italy, regularly hosting national and international regattas. The event features "sprint" races over the short distance of 500 meters, a fast and spectacular format that tests the power and explosiveness of the crews.
Alongside the competition is the National Meeting for Juniors and Cadets, an important event for young rowers. The organization is handled by ASD Canottieri Gavirate, a historic club that has been promoting rowing on Lake Varese for decades.
For enthusiasts and the public, it is an opportunity to witness high-level races live in a natural setting of great beauty, at the foot of the Varese pre-Alps.
The 2026 edition, the first Italian Sprint Championship, is held on September 12 and 13 on Lake Varese. The races are contested over the 500-meter sprint distance and are accompanied by the National Meeting for Juniors and Cadets. The event, organized by ASD Canottieri Gavirate, is valid for the prestigious national trophies Coppa Montù and D'Aloja.
The detailed timetable for heats and finals is published by the Italian Rowing Federation and the organizing club.
Gavirate is located in the province of Varese, on the northern shore of Lake Varese, accessible from the SS394 and served by the train station. The racecourse is on the lake.
Free admission for the public along the observation areas of the racecourse.
