Schiz cheese, a symbol of the Feltrino

"Formai schiz" is one of the most characteristic cheeses of the Feltrino area: fresh, to be cooked in a pan, it is an identity product of Belluno's peasant cuisine. In Celarda, a hamlet of Feltre, the APS Casel de Celarda dedicates a festival to this specialty, recounting its history and production.

Cheesemaking art in the ancient casel

The heart of the event is the ancient casel of Celarda, where the traditional production of schiz cheese, butter, and ricotta is demonstrated. Visitors can witness the various stages of milk processing, rediscovering ancient gestures and knowledge that the association is committed to preserving.

Flavours and conviviality

Around the cheesemaking demonstration, the festival offers food stands with traditional dishes, where schiz cheese is naturally the star. Music and convivial moments liven up the days, involving the community of Celarda and visitors from Feltre and surrounding areas.

Organized by APS Casel de Celarda, the Festa del Formai Schiz is more than just a sagra (food festival): it is a guardian of the rural memory of the Feltrino, promoting a typical product and the mountain cheesemaking culture of the province of Belluno.
