The taste of the mountains in Lateis

Right in the middle of Ferragosto, the small hamlet of Lateis, above Sauris (Zahre), comes alive for the Festa del Formaggio di Malga e dei Piccoli Frutti. It is one of the most genuine gastronomic events in the Carnic Dolomites, dedicated to two local excellences: the cheeses produced in the high-altitude pastures and the wild berries grown by local farms.

Alpine cheeses and wild berries

The absolute stars are the alpine cheeses, the result of processing milk from Sauris' pastures using traditional methods, and the wild berries — blueberries, raspberries, currants, and wild strawberries — from the area's farms. The festival is an opportunity to savour these products in a setting of conviviality, culinary discovery, and direct contact with the producers.

Sauris, land of authentic flavours

Sauris is famous for its gastronomic excellences, from smoked ham to Zahre beer, and this festival adds a precious element to its food and wine heritage. The event is organised by the Rete Imprese Sauris-Zahre with the support of the Municipality of Sauris.
