The patronal feast of the San Luca hamlet in Molare, featuring a procession, local gastronomy, and dance evenings.
The Festa del Cristo is the patronal feast of the San Luca hamlet, one of the small communities that make up the municipality of Molare, in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of the Piedmontese Ovada region. Organized with care and passion by the Pro Loco San Luca, the event takes place every year at the beginning of July and is one of the most anticipated summer appointments for the inhabitants of the Orba Valley.
The program of the Festa del Cristo has followed a proven formula for years that blends religious observance with a more convivial and popular atmosphere. Friday and Saturday evenings revolve around the food stand managed by Pro Loco volunteers, where traditional local dishes are served, accompanied by the cork lottery—a true symbol of the festival—and dance evenings with live music. There is also an artisan market that adds color to the hamlet's streets throughout the weekend.
The most solemn moment is reserved for Sunday: in the early afternoon, fritters are served and the lottery continues, while in the late afternoon the community gathers for holy mass, followed by the traditional procession that winds through the streets of San Luca. The day concludes on a high note with a final evening at the food stand, featuring more music and dancing to mark the end of the festival.
The Festa del Cristo is much more than a simple village fair: it is a moment when a small rural hamlet reaffirms its identity and sense of belonging. The volunteer work of the Pro Loco, the participation of families, and the meeting of generations make this festival a living example of the popular traditions of rural Piedmont.
Nestled at an altitude of 226 meters among the hills of the Ovada area, Molare is an ideal destination for those who love slow tourism, nature, history, and gastronomy. In the surrounding area, you can discover the 16th-century castle, Palazzo Tornielli, the Sanctuary of the Rocche, and the striking Molare dam, surrounded by greenery. Participating in the Festa del Cristo also means discovering an authentic and off-the-beaten-path corner of southern Piedmont, just a few kilometers from Ovada.
