Four hundred species of mushrooms and environmental culture at the foot of the Prealps in Budoia
At the foot of the Pordenone Prealps, Budoia is a village with an ancient and deep connection to its woods. Every September, this bond is celebrated with the Festa dei Funghi e dell'Ambiente, an event that for over half a century has combined mycological passion, environmental culture, and seasonal gastronomy, attracting enthusiasts and curious visitors from all over the region.
The scientific heart of the festival is the exhibition of around 400 species of mushrooms, set up as part of the Regional Mycological Exhibition. Expert mycologists are available to the public to explain the characteristics, habitats, and secrets of the various species, distinguishing edible from poisonous ones: a precious opportunity for education and dissemination, as well as for wonder at the biodiversity of the forest. Accompanying the mycological exhibition is also a photographic exhibition dedicated to the forms of nature.
The word "Ambiente" (Environment) in the title is not incidental: for more than thirty years, the event has been recognized as an eco-event, with waste prevention programs and sustainability-focused practices. The calendar includes environmental-themed conferences held by experts, testifying to the Pro Loco Budoia's commitment to combining popular celebration with ecological awareness.
There is also a convivial dimension: the restaurant and kiosk offer themed menus with mushrooms as the protagonists, while a space is dedicated to organic local products. The Marcia dei Funghi (Mushroom Walk), a hike through the woods and trails of Budoia, completes the offering for those who want to experience the festival outdoors. In March 2026, the event received the recognition of "Sagra di Qualità" (Quality Festival) from UNPLI, crowning a journey of growth and organizational care.
The 57th edition of the Festa dei Funghi e dell'Ambiente is expected in Budoia (PN) in September 2026. The event, organized by Pro Loco Budoia, confirms its dual nature: scientific and educational with the grand mycological exhibition, and convivial and popular with themed gastronomy. In March 2026, it received the "Sagra di Qualità" mark from UNPLI, an award presented in the Senate along with that of Gemona.
Based on recent editions, the festival typically spans two weekends in September and includes:
