The Argenta evenings of the longest-running independent music festival in Emilia-Romagna
Ferrara Under the Stars is the longest-running independent music festival in Emilia-Romagna: born in the mid-nineties and organized by Arci Ferrara, it has built a solid reputation over the years among fans of curious, independent, and auteur music. While its heart is in the Courtyard of the Este Castle in Ferrara, for some editions the festival has extended its reach to the Municipality of Argenta, in the province of Ferrara, where it chooses a truly unique setting: the Este Delizia of Benvignante, a Renaissance residence commissioned by the Este family and immersed in the countryside of the lower Ferrara region.
The Benvignante venue, in the municipal territory of Argenta, offers the festival a different atmosphere from the urban setting of the Castle: open spaces, the silence of the countryside, historic walls, and a starry sky. It is here, in the hamlet of Benvignante along the provincial road that crosses the reclaimed lands of Argenta, that the "out-of-town" evenings of the program are concentrated each summer, designed as more intimate and secluded moments compared to the big city concerts.
The hallmark of Ferrara Under the Stars is a program described by the organizers themselves as "curious, changing, and enterprising": alongside cult Italian artists, there is space for international names from the alternative, folk, world music, and singer-songwriter scenes. The Argenta evenings follow this same philosophy, alternating long-standing bands, auteur projects, and foreign guests on some of their rare Italian dates.
The festival is made possible thanks to the collaboration between Arci Ferrara, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Municipality of Ferrara, and the Municipality of Argenta. The involvement of the Argenta administration has made it possible to bring the festival's music to the suggestive Benvignante complex, enhancing a historical asset of the territory and offering the public an experience that combines concerts and heritage.
In 2026, Ferrara Under the Stars celebrates thirty years of history and chooses the Este Delizia of Benvignante, in Argenta, to host the closing part of its XXX edition. After the evenings in the Courtyard of the Este Castle in Ferrara (July 22-25), the festival moves to the Argenta countryside from July 28 to 30 with three highly anticipated international concerts, confirming the festival's commitment to combining big names and evocative locations.
The three Argenta dates follow the Ferrara evenings in the Courtyard of the Este Castle (July 22 Ministri, July 23 The Notwist, July 25 Emma Nolde) and the spring preview events (Tom Smith in Ferrara, Tortoise in Bologna).
The Este Delizia of Benvignante is located in the Municipality of Argenta (FE), in the locality of Benvignante along the provincial road, southeast of Ferrara. By car, it can be reached from Ferrara by following signs for Argenta; car use is recommended given its countryside location. The reference train station is Argenta, on the Ferrara-Ravenna line, from which a local transfer is then necessary.
Tickets for the evenings are available on the official website ferrarasottolestelle.it and on authorized pre-sale circuits like Ticketone. Each date has a separate ticket.
As these are outdoor concerts in the countryside, comfortable clothing is recommended, and arriving a little early is advised. Ferrara, a UNESCO World Heritage art city, offers numerous accommodation options within a short distance.
