About Fermento

Fermento – A Summer at the Lake is a widespread festival that brings life to Capodimonte, a village overlooking Lake Bolsena in the province of Viterbo. From spring through late summer, with a special Winter Edition in December, the event weaves together natural wine tastings, local produce, sunrise concerts on the lakefront, theater, art-house cinema, yoga, and cultural gatherings. It is an invitation to slow down and experience the village in depth, amidst art, taste, and the lakeside landscape, with free events organized by the La Festa delle Medie association and supported by the Lazio Region.

A widespread festival on Lake Bolsena

Fermento – A Summer at the Lake is the cultural festival that transforms Capodimonte, a small village overlooking Lake Bolsena in the province of Viterbo, into an open-air stage. Conceived and organized by the La Festa delle Medie Association with the contribution of the Lazio Region and the patronage of the Municipality of Capodimonte, the festival offers a program that spans the entire summer season, from the first spring appointments to the grand finale in late August, before returning in a more intimate form with the Winter Edition in December.

Natural wine, taste, and territory

The food and wine heart of the event lies in its slow and conscious tastings: tasting counters with winemakers and local producers, natural wines from the Tuscia region, traditional products, and small artisanal businesses. In the Winter Edition, natural wine becomes the absolute protagonist, accompanied by talks and stories dedicated to land regeneration and sustainability, in a convivial atmosphere that pairs the glass with the word.

Sunrise music, theater, and cinema

The artistic programming is multidisciplinary and intentionally surprising. Among the most beloved events are the sunrise concerts on the lakefront, immersive experiences where music dialogues with the awakening of nature and the lake. The calendar alternates theater performances in evocative corners of the village – from the gardens of the Rocca to the staircase of the church of Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo – and art-house cinema screenings, featuring classics of the Italian big screen. There is no shortage of sunset yoga, vintage and handmade markets, and meetings with writers and authors.

Slowing down and experiencing the village

As the municipal administration has highlighted, Fermento is "an invitation to slow down, to experience the village in depth, through art and culture." The festival's formula enhances the most beautiful corners of Capodimonte – the port, the lakefront, the alleys of the historic center, and the Rocca Farnese – restoring a cultural vibrancy to the village overlooking Lake Bolsena that lasts well beyond the warm months.

An event accessible to all

Most of Fermento's events are free of charge, designed for families, curious visitors, and enthusiasts. The event is part of the wider circuit of happenings that animate the Viterbo shore of Lake Bolsena, an ideal destination for slow tourism made of nature, good wine, and culture in the heart of the Lazio Tuscia.
