Authorial photography transforming the village of Ferentino into an open-air museum
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Ferentino Photo Festival is one of the most original photography events in southern Lazio. Born in 2013 through the initiative of a group of enthusiasts and having grown edition after edition, the festival has chosen the Santa Lucia district, the ancient heart of the town of Ferentino in the province of Frosinone, as its home. Here, every September, the medieval alleys, the square, and the district church are transformed into an open-air museum, where photography steps out of galleries to engage with the stone, the portals, and the daily life of the village.
The festival program weaves together different visual languages. The public can move at a leisurely pace through exhibitions, site-specific installations, video projections, portfolio reviews, and art spaces set up within the urban fabric. Alongside the display of works, the event offers opportunities for training and discussion:
Each edition of the festival is built around a theme that guides its selection and layout. Over the years, titles such as Nel Tempo Sospeso (In Suspended Time), Fragilitร (Fragility), and for the tenth edition in 2025, Io ero lรฌ (I was there) have been featured: a statement of presence, testimony, and sharing, where photography becomes the voice of time and a story of who we once were. This curatorial approach, led by artistic director Fulvio Bernola, gives each edition a precise identity and turns the visit into a true journey through images and reflections.
Hosting a photography festival in Ferentino means immersing it in one of the most evocative villages of the Ciociaria region and Lazio. A city of Hernican and later Roman origin, Ferentino preserves polygonal walls, the acropolis, and a medieval layout that provide a natural backdrop for the displayed images. The event thus enhances the local heritage, putting authorial photography in dialogue with the history and identity of a town in the province of Frosinone. The result is an event capable of attracting visitors, photographers, and image lovers from across the region and beyond.
The Ferentino Photo Festival is traditionally held in September, when the climate allows visitors to enjoy the village and its outdoor exhibitions during the cooler hours of the day and evening. It is an event designed for those who love conscious photography, meetings with authors, and the intimate atmosphere of a village-scale festival, far from the fragmentation of large urban centers.
Following the tenth edition in 2025, the Ferentino Photo Festival is expected to return in September 2026 to the Santa Lucia district, in the historic center of Ferentino (province of Frosinone, Lazio). As of the writing of this entry, the organization has not yet released the official calendar, theme, or program for the new appointments. The consolidated structure of the event suggests a path of exhibitions, workshops, seminars, video projections, and portfolio reviews distributed among the alleys, square, and church of the district. Information will be updated as soon as the organization announces dates and the program.
Ferentino is located in the province of Frosinone, in Lazio. By car, it is accessible via the A1 Rome-Naples motorway, taking the Ferentino-Sora exit. By train, the reference station is Ferentino-Supino, on the Rome-Cassino line, with connections to the historic center.
Exhibitions and events are concentrated in the Santa Lucia district, in the historic center of Ferentino, among the alleys, the square, and the district church.
For updated dates, the full program, workshop fees, and participation details, it is recommended to check the festival's official channels and the Ferentino Photo Festival Facebook page.
