In the heart of Grecìa Salentina, the area of Salento where the Grika language is still preserved, the town of Soleto (Lecce province, Puglia) pays homage to its patron saint, Saint Anthony of Padua, every June 13th. It is the most anticipated event of the year for the local community: a time when the small town gathers around its Mother Church to rediscover the warmth of a traditional Salento village feast, defined by faith, music, and conviviality.

Devotion and tradition

Devotion to Saint Anthony stems from the miracles attributed to the Franciscan friar, making him one of the most beloved and venerated saints worldwide. In Soleto, the liturgical day is marked by solemn masses celebrated in the Mother Church of Maria SS. Assunta, culminating in a procession that accompanies the saint's statue through the streets of the historic center, accompanied by the faithful and a brass band.

Soleto is famous for the Spire of Raimondello Orsini, a 40-meter-high Gothic bell tower commissioned in 1397 by the powerful Count of Soleto and Prince of Taranto, which stands next to the 18th-century Parish Church of Maria SS. Assunta.
