The feast of the patrons of the smallest municipality in the province of Terni, between faith, baskets and fireworks
Polino is the least populous municipality in the province of Terni, a small mountain village overlooking the mountains of the Terni Valnerina. Every year, the town celebrates its two patron saints, Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Valentine Martyr, with a festival that, as the local community itself recalls, represents "a moment of great cultural and religious value".
The heart of the festival is the procession to the hermitage of Saint Anthony, accompanied by the traditional parade of 'canestre', the traditional baskets carried in procession which represent one of the most characteristic expressions of the area's popular religiosity. The Polino town band accompanies the key moments of the celebration.
Alongside the religious dimension, the festival offers moments of conviviality and fun: street food and local gastronomy, stalls with typical products from the Terni mountains, and to conclude, the fireworks display. An event designed for all ages, which brings together the small community of Polino and visitors in one of the most authentic villages of southern Umbria.
For 2026, the Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Valentine Martyr in Polino is expected in June, around the June 13th liturgical feast, on the closest weekend. The event will reprise its established program: the procession to the hermitage of Saint Anthony, the parade of 'canestre', street food and local product stalls, the fireworks display, and the performance by the Polino town band.
The precise dates and detailed program are announced by the Pro Loco of Polino in the weeks preceding the event.
