Porcini mushrooms and Nera river trout celebrated in Borgo Cerreto, around Ferragosto.
In Borgo Cerreto, a hamlet of Cerreto di Spoleto nestled on the banks of the Nera River, the Black River Mushroom and Trout Festival is one of the longest-standing and most cherished events of the summer in Valnerina. Established in 1984 and organized by the Pro Loco Borgo Cerreto-Ponte APS, the festival celebrates the two symbolic products of the area: the porcini mushroom from the Apennine woods and the trout from the Nera River.
From 7:30 PM, the food stalls serve the festival's signature dishes: tagliolini with trout sauce, porcini mushroom risotto, porchetta, and other Valnerina culinary specialties. A regional cuisine that unites the flavors of the river and the woods in a single celebration, in one of Umbria's most renowned areas for mushroom foraging.
Every evening, from 9:30 PM, the stage hosts a different orchestra for the dancing evening. The most anticipated moment is the grand finale on Ferragosto night, August 15th, with a spectacular fireworks display that illuminates the Nera valley and attracts a large audience from all over Umbria and neighboring regions. During the festival days, it is also possible to visit the town's Mummy Museum.
The festival is traditionally held around Ferragosto (August 12-15) in Borgo Cerreto, a hamlet of Cerreto di Spoleto, in the province of Perugia. Admission is free.
The Black River Mushroom and Trout Festival returns to Borgo Cerreto for its 42nd edition, around Ferragosto 2026, organized by the Pro Loco Borgo Cerreto-Ponte APS. The established format is confirmed: four evenings of food stalls featuring tagliolini with trout sauce, porcini mushroom risotto, and porchetta, live orchestras for dancing, and the grand fireworks display on Ferragosto night.
The exact dates and names of the 2026 orchestras will be announced by the Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event.
Program to come. The usual structure, based on previous editions, includes: opening of food stalls from 7:30 PM (tagliolini with trout sauce, porcini mushroom risotto, porchetta), dancing evening with live orchestra from 9:30 PM, and on Ferragosto night (August 15th), the spectacular fireworks display over the Nera River.
The names of the 2026 orchestras will be announced by the Pro Loco Borgo Cerreto-Ponte.
