An Ancient Festival on the Lake
The Water Festival takes place in Piediluco, a charming lakeside hamlet of Terni located on the border between Umbria and Lazio. The event celebrates the summer solstice and has ancient roots, dating back to when the lake's inhabitants honoured water deities, particularly Neptune, through decorated ritual boats. This tradition continues to make the festival one of the most characteristic events in the Terni area.
Illuminated Allegorical Boats
The heart of the event is the night parade of illuminated allegorical boats on the lake: a fun, non-competitive race among the "lake artisans" who build spectacular vessels. Historically, the parade is followed by a water show. Along the shores, there is also a flower festival with a competition for floral decorations in the village streets, along with numerous collateral initiatives.

The programme spans several weekends and includes concerts, theatre and dance performances, exhibitions, bike tours, book presentations, lakeside yoga, and a lake fish festival. The 2026 edition of the Water Festival renews the celebration of the summer solstice on Piediluco Lake. The event, organised by the Pro Loco of Piediluco, features the historic night parade of illuminated allegorical boats, a fun competition among the lake artisans, along with concerts, theatre and dance performances, exhibitions, lakeside activities, and a lake fish festival.

Getting Here
Piediluco is about 15 km from Terni, reachable by car via the SS79 towards Rieti. The nearest train station is Terni, with bus connections to the lake.
Admission
Events along the lake and in the village are generally free to enter. The fish festival requires payment for consumption.
