The Madonna festival that brings the entire community of Rodì Milici together on the first Sunday of August

The Feast of Mary Most Holy Immaculate is one of the most beloved traditions for the community of Rodì Milici, a town in the Tyrrhenian hinterland of the Province of Messina, Sicily. Although celebrated in the heart of summer on the first Sunday of August, the festival retains its deeply religious and communal character, reuniting residents and those who return home for the holidays.
The central moment of the festivities is the solemn procession of the artistic statue of the Madonna, a fine wooden image kept in the Church of the Immaculate, located in Piazza Immacolata. The statue, carried on shoulders, winds through the town streets accompanied by the faithful, prayers, and the notes of a brass band, following a route that touches the most significant points of the town center.
Upon its return, the celebration concludes with Solemn Holy Mass in Piazza Immacolata, which for the occasion transforms into a suggestive open-air place of worship and reflection, packed with the local population.
The festival has its roots in a long devotional tradition linked to the cult of the Immaculate Conception, preserved over the centuries by the local confraternity. Surrounding the religious rites is the customary atmosphere of a village festival: street decorations, artistic lighting, music, and food stalls, making the first Sunday of August an event anticipated all year round.
Included in the summer calendar of the Municipality of Rodì Milici, the Feast of the Immaculate is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Messina region, far from the main tourist flows, where the spiritual and social dimensions coexist in the most genuine spirit of Sicilian patronal festivals.
