The Feast in Honor of Saint Anthony of Padua is one of the most cherished events in the calendar of Pratola Peligna, a town in the province of L'Aquila located in the picturesque Peligna Valley, in Abruzzo. Every year, around June 13th, the day dedicated to the great Wonderworker, the town gathers around the figure of the Saint with a celebration that has always united the sacred and the secular.
The organization is led by the Confraternity of the Great Wonderworker Saint Anthony of Padua and the Festival Committee, who enrich the calendar each year with cultural, artistic, and musical initiatives capable of attracting faithful and visitors from across the entire Peligna Valley.
The religious heart of the festival remains the deep bond between the local community and the cult of Saint Anthony. During the days of celebration, the statue of the Saint is carried in procession through the streets of the town, accompanied by the confreres and the population in a moment of reflection and prayer. Among the most characteristic traditions is the distribution of blessed bread at the Luogo Pio, an ancient gesture that renews the sign of charity and protection attributed to the Saint every year.
Alongside the devotional dimension, the festivities offer a secular program that spans several days, transforming the squares of Pratola Peligna into vibrant gathering places. In recent editions, the lineup has alternated cultural conferences, dance performances, children's entertainment with a small train in the historic center, and major concerts in the square. There is no shortage of striking parades, such as the Bersaglieri Parade, and musical evenings that continue late into the night with DJ sets.
The festival attracts well-known names in Italian music: in the 2025 edition, the closing was entrusted to the concert of Anna Tatangelo in Piazza del Milite Ignoto, demonstrating how much the event has grown over the years while remaining faithful to its religious and popular roots.
More than just a simple feast, the celebrations in honor of Saint Anthony of Padua constitute a defining moment for the entire community of Pratola Peligna and the Peligna Valley. Devotion, tradition, music, and conviviality merge in an event that reaffirms the strong bond between the town and its patron saint every year, drawing back both residents and those who have moved away for the occasion.
The 2026 edition of the Feast in Honor of Saint Anthony of Padua in Pratola Peligna is expected, as per tradition, in the month of June, with the highlight around June 13th, the Saint's feast day. The official dates and the complete program have not yet been released: the usual blend of religious rites (procession, Holy Mass, distribution of blessed bread at the Luogo Pio) and secular events with music and shows in the squares of the historic center is expected.
