About Farinate Medievale

In the small hamlet of Farinate, in Capralba, province of Cremona, time rewinds to the Middle Ages for a day. Farinate Medievale is a historical re-enactment that fills the village with ladies and knights, period stalls, falconry displays, ancient dances, and medieval games, culminating in an evening fire show dedicated to the legendary Tarantasio dragon. Organized by Pro Loco Capralba with the patronage of the Municipality, it's an immersive day designed for all ages, combining entertainment, education, and popular tradition in the heart of the Cremasco countryside.

When Farinate Returns to the Middle Ages

It only takes a few hours for the hamlet of Farinate, in the Municipality of Capralba (province of Cremona), to transform into an open-air medieval village. Farinate Medievale is a historical re-enactment created to bring back to life the atmospheres, trades, and suggestions of a distant era, in a corner of the Cremasco countryside dominated by the ancient castle and the small church of the Beata Vergine del Fonte.

A Day of History and Spectacle

The event opens in the early afternoon with a re-enactment by the Corvi di Ventura group and the opening of themed stalls in the square. From there, the program unfolds with processions of ladies and knights, demonstrations of medieval life and combat, falconry displays, ancient dances, and games involving adults and children.

  • Historical parades and battle demonstrations
  • Falconry displays with birds of prey
  • Medieval dances and live role-playing games
  • Tavern with medieval food and drinks, stalls of artisans and artists
  • Children's area with riding lessons and workshops
  • Exhibition of working models of Leonardo's machines

The Grand Finale: The Tarantasio Dragon

The most anticipated moment arrives with the fall of evening: at 8:45 PM, the fire show "Tarantasio Dragon Between History and Legend" closes the day. The reference is to Tarantasio, a monstrous creature that Lombard popular tradition placed in the marshes of Gerundo, the ancient lake that covered these lands between the provinces of Cremona, Lodi, and Bergamo: a legend that links Farinate to the deep history of the territory.

Who It's For

Farinate Medievale is a festival for the whole family: children will find workshops, games, and saddle baptisms, history enthusiasts will immerse themselves in the demonstrations and reconstructions, and food lovers can enjoy the tavern or the medieval menus offered by local restaurants. A tried-and-tested formula that, every year, draws a large and loyal audience to this hamlet in the Cremasco region.
