A leap into the Middle Ages with falconers, knights, and the Tarantasio dragon
It only takes a few hours for the hamlet of Farinate, in the Municipality of Capralba (province of Cremona), to transform into an open-air medieval village. Farinate Medievale is a historical re-enactment created to bring back to life the atmospheres, trades, and suggestions of a distant era, in a corner of the Cremasco countryside dominated by the ancient castle and the small church of the Beata Vergine del Fonte.
The event opens in the early afternoon with a re-enactment by the Corvi di Ventura group and the opening of themed stalls in the square. From there, the program unfolds with processions of ladies and knights, demonstrations of medieval life and combat, falconry displays, ancient dances, and games involving adults and children.
The most anticipated moment arrives with the fall of evening: at 8:45 PM, the fire show "Tarantasio Dragon Between History and Legend" closes the day. The reference is to Tarantasio, a monstrous creature that Lombard popular tradition placed in the marshes of Gerundo, the ancient lake that covered these lands between the provinces of Cremona, Lodi, and Bergamo: a legend that links Farinate to the deep history of the territory.
Farinate Medievale is a festival for the whole family: children will find workshops, games, and saddle baptisms, history enthusiasts will immerse themselves in the demonstrations and reconstructions, and food lovers can enjoy the tavern or the medieval menus offered by local restaurants. A tried-and-tested formula that, every year, draws a large and loyal audience to this hamlet in the Cremasco region.
On Sunday, April 12, 2026, the hamlet of Farinate in Capralba returns to the Middle Ages. Organized by Pro Loco Capralba with the patronage of the Municipality, the re-enactment offers a full day of shows, demonstrations, and activities for all ages, concluding with the evening fire show.
Among the highlights is the exhibition of working models of Leonardo's military engineering machines, set up inside the small church of the Beata Vergine del Fonte and open on Sundays and the following weekends.
All day long, stalls of artisans and artists, medieval food and drinks, and an exhibition of Leonardo's models by Enzo Poli in the church of the Beata Vergine del Fonte (open Sundays from 9 AM to 12 PM and 3 PM to 6 PM, and on subsequent weekends until May 10th).
The two falconry displays in the afternoon and, above all, the evening fire show dedicated to the Tarantasio dragon, the grand finale of the re-enactment.
Capralba is located in the province of Cremona, in the Cremasco countryside, a short distance from Crema and Treviglio. The hamlet of Farinate is reachable by car; the nearest train stations are Treviglio and Crema.
The event takes place in the public spaces of the village. For times, access, and program details, it is recommended to consult the channels of Pro Loco Capralba and the Municipality.
Wear comfortable shoes to walk through the village streets and plan to stay until the evening for the final fire show.
