Saint Roch, Patron Saint of Fornovo San Giovanni

The Saint Roch Festival is the patronal feast of the Municipality of Fornovo San Giovanni, in the province of Bergamo, in the Bassa pianura bergamasca region. Dedicated to Saint Roch, the pilgrim saint traditionally invoked against epidemics and a protector venerated in many Italian towns, the festival culminates on August 16th, the day of his commemoration, but extends over several evenings in the heart of summer.

Evenings at the Festival Grounds

For several consecutive evenings, the municipal festival grounds become the pulsating heart of the town, with bar service, food, pizza, and barbecue every night. The evenings are enlivened by music and entertainment, in a festive atmosphere that attracts residents and visitors from neighboring towns. It is the typical Bergamasca summer patronal feast, where the convivial dimension accompanies the religious one.

August 16th, Between Faith and Fireworks

The most solemn moment is August 16th, Saint Roch's day. The religious program includes the solemn mass and the procession through the town streets in honor of the patron saint. In the evening, the festival reaches its climax with the concert and the traditional fireworks display dedicated to Saint Roch, which lights up the sky of Fornovo, offering one of the most anticipated moments of the entire event.

The Comitato San Rocco

The organization of the festival is handled by the Comitato San Rocco (Saint Roch Committee), a volunteer association committed to promoting and organizing social activities in the Fornovo San Giovanni area. Thanks to their work, the patronal feast remains a solid and rooted event, capable of uniting the community and enhancing the identity of this village in the Bassa bergamasca region.
