The patron saint of Rivolta d'Adda between faith, history, and celebration
The Patronal Feast of Saint Albert Quadrelli is dedicated to the patron saint of Rivolta d'Adda, in the province of Cremona. Saint Albert Quadrelli (1103-1173) was a bishop and a prominent figure in local history: born in Rivolta, he was its provost for twenty-five years before becoming bishop, and is today venerated as the community's patron saint.
The celebrations, held around July 4th, are characterized by a striking triple procession: on Saturday evening, the relic is transported from the church dedicated to him to the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and San Sigismondo; on Sunday afternoon, the precious artistic reliquary is carried in procession through the town's streets, in a moment of great popular participation. The saint's relicsโincluding a tibia kept in the Church of Sant'Alberto since 1856โtestify to the centuries-old bond between Rivolta and its patron saint.
Alongside the religious dimension, the feast features a fair, exhibitions, music, games, and fireworks, animating the town center in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community. An event that intertwines spirituality, historical memory, and tradition, telling the deep identity of Rivolta d'Adda and the '850 years of Rivoltan-ness' linked to the figure of Saint Albert.
The Patronal Feast of Saint Albert Quadrelli returns to Rivolta d'Adda in early July 2026, around the July 4th anniversary, with the main celebrations on the closest Sunday.
The most solemn moment is the triple procession: the saint's relic is transported from the Church of Sant'Alberto to the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and San Sigismondo, while on Sunday afternoon the artistic reliquary parades through the town's streets. Alongside the religious celebrations, the feast offers a fair, music, and fireworks.
The detailed program is published by the parish and the Municipality in the weeks preceding the event.
