The popular carnival of the Faida di Piné hamlet, in Trentino
The Faidero Carnival is the most anticipated carnival event in the hamlet of Faida di Piné, within the municipality of Baselga di Pinè, on the Piné plateau in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Organized by the Circolo Faida Te, an affiliate of ARCI Trentino, it is considered one of the most lively and well-attended carnivals in the entire Piné area, transforming the small village into a cheerful stage for masks, music, and mountain flavors.
The event spans an entire weekend and takes place inside a heated structure, ensuring fun even during the harsh winter days on the plateau. The program alternates between gastronomic moments, dancing, entertainment for the little ones, and the traditional costume parade with a competition that rewards the creativity of the participants every year.
A major highlight of the Faidero Carnival is the traditional Trentino cuisine. Among the specialties served are the canederlada faidera, local dishes, sandwiches, and french fries, as well as gnocchi with meat sauce and sardines offered during the Sunday lunch. Conviviality at the table is an integral part of the festival, accompanied by live music and masquerade dances with the accordion.
The Faidero Carnival is a festival designed for families: on Sunday afternoon, inflatables and a dedicated children's area are set up, while the day continues with performances, local bands, the mask competition, and the lottery draw. Admission is free, in the true spirit of a community festival born from local volunteer efforts.
Rooted in the popular culture of the Piné plateau, the Faidero Carnival represents an opportunity to rediscover the traditions of the Trentino carnival in an authentic and convivial setting. Its annual recurrence in Faida di Piné has made it a landmark for fans of popular festivals in the municipality of Baselga di Pinè and the entire province of Trento.
