About Ex Tempore of Sculpture
An open-air studio in the square
Every September, Auronzo di Cadore becomes a large open-air workshop: in Piazza Santa Giustina, sculptors work wood live, shaping their creations under the eyes of residents and tourists. It is the Ex Tempore of Wood Sculpture, an event that combines art, artisanal tradition, and the spectacle of live creation, in the heart of the Belluno Dolomites.
Art at the foot of the Tre Cime
The setting is that of the most famous mountains in the Dolomites: Auronzo di Cadore is one of the gateways to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, and this link with the mountains also accompanies the event. The sculptors have a few days to create their works, which are then judged by a jury at the final awards ceremony.
A tribute to Tiziano
The 2026 edition of the Ex Tempore is linked to an important anniversary for Cadore: the 450th anniversary of the death of Tiziano Vecellio, the supreme painter born in Pieve di Cadore. A theme that further roots the event in the history and artistic identity of the territory, in the province of Belluno.
Ex Tempore of Sculpture — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Ex Tempore of Wood Sculpture, the 34th, takes place from September 1st to 5th in Piazza Santa Giustina in Auronzo di Cadore. Ten sculptors will bring to life works inspired by the 450th anniversary of the death of Tiziano Vecellio, the great painter from Cadore, as part of the town's cultural summer.

How to get there
Auronzo di Cadore can be reached by car along the SS51 Alemagna from the A27 motorway (exit Pian di Vedoia/Belluno), heading up the Cadore valley. By train to Calalzo di Cadore, then a local bus to Auronzo.
Admission
The event takes place outdoors in Piazza Santa Giustina; the works can be viewed throughout the sculptors' working days. The awards ceremony is held in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall.
