The Evening between Heaven and Earth is an event held in Odalengo Piccolo, a small town in the Province of Alessandria tucked away in the hills of Casale Monferrato, Piedmont. Launched as part of Golosaria Monferrato—the major travelling festival dedicated to the region, its villages, and its culinary excellence—the initiative focuses on the intersection of astronomy and local food culture.
The sky: solar and night-time observation
The heart of the evening is the Odalengo Piccolo Astronomical Observatory on Strada Bricco Palmaro, managed by the Cielo del Monferrato Amateur Astronomers Group. The special opening offers two distinct experiences:
- at sunset, a session dedicated to observing the Sun and its sunspots;
- as night falls, the observation of the Moon, planets, and deep-sky objects, accompanied by expert commentary from the astronomers.
The Observatory is accessible to visitors with disabilities.
The land: walks and local products
Beyond astronomy, the "Evening between Heaven and Earth" celebrates the landscape and local produce. Scenic walks are scheduled at sunset along the recently restored Superga-Crea and Bricco di San Michele trails. A zero-mile market showcases local specialties: the De.Co. cake from Pasticceria Zannol, honey from Officina del Miele, and fresh vegetables and products from local farms.

For those wishing to dine out, you can book a table at Odalengo Piccolo's restaurants, Serra and Tuais, which serve traditional Monferrato dishes.

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Odalengo Piccolo hosted the first Evening between Heaven and Earth, a new event at the Astronomical Observatory on Strada Bricco Palmaro as part of Golosaria Monferrato.
The program alternated between solar observation at sunset and night-time viewing of the Moon, planets, and deep-sky objects, guided by the Cielo del Monferrato Amateur Astronomers Group. The event also featured walks along the Superga-Crea and Bricco di San Michele trails, a zero-mile market with honey, De.Co. cake, and local agricultural products, as well as dinners by reservation at the Serra and Tuais restaurants. Free admission, no booking required.
