Puppets, marionettes, and shadows arrive in the squares of Crescentino
EuroPuppet is the International Traveling Puppet Theater Festival, a summer event that has been enlivening the squares of Eastern Piedmont for years, showcasing puppets, marionettes, figures, shadows, and live-action theater. Conceived and organized by Kirby Teatro - La Bottega Teatrale APS from Fontanetto Po (VC), under the artistic direction of Giuseppe Cardascio and Salvatore Varvaro, the festival travels from town to town across the Valsesia, Vercelli, and, starting this year, the Turin area.
In Crescentino, an important town in the Lower Vercelli area overlooking the Po River, EuroPuppet finds one of its most anticipated stops. The evenings take place in the heart of the town, in Piazza Caretto, while daytime workshops and activities enliven city parks such as Parco Villa Tournon and Parco Rita Levi Montalcini.
The program in Crescentino combines two elements: evening performances, suitable for audiences of all ages, and creative workshops for children. Among the most evocative activities is the Lanterns of Wishes, where children build floating lanterns that are launched at dusk in the waters of a city park, creating a moment of great poetry.
Reaching its nineteenth edition in 2026, EuroPuppet is now one of the most established puppet theater events in Italy. Its traveling format allows many small towns in the province of Vercelli and Piedmont to host high-quality performances that are often difficult to see outside of major cities. In Crescentino, the festival has become a staple of the summer, filling the squares with children, parents, and grandparents.
For those visiting the area, the Crescentino stop is also an opportunity to discover a Piedmontese village rich in history, nestled between the Po River and the rice fields of the Vercelli area, during a summer evening dedicated to imagination. The Crescentino stop confirms the town's strong bond with this Eastern Piedmont festival.
The 19th edition of EuroPuppet takes place between June 26 and July 12, 2026, in numerous locations across Eastern Piedmont. In Crescentino (VC), events are concentrated on the weekend of July 10-12, with evening shows in Piazza Caretto and activities for children in the city parks. The entire festival features 21 live performances and includes an exhibition dedicated to Pinocchio for the 200th anniversary of the birth of Carlo Lorenzini (Collodi). All events are free and open to the public.
For workshops, booking via WhatsApp or SMS to the organizers is recommended.
The highlights of the Crescentino stop are the evening show "The Ghost Revolt" by the organizing company and the poetic launch of the Lanterns of Wishes in Parco Rita Levi Montalcini, as well as the show "Salt Love" by the Apulian company Arterie Teatro.
Evening performances are held in Piazza Caretto, in the center of Crescentino (VC). Workshops and the lantern launch take place in the city parks (Parco Villa Tournon and Parco Rita Levi Montalcini).
Crescentino can be reached by car from the A4 motorway (Greggio or Borgo d'Ale exit) and is located along the main road between Chivasso and Vercelli. The most convenient train station is Chivasso, with onward connections by bus.
All performances are free and open to the public. For workshops, booking is recommended by contacting the organizers via WhatsApp or SMS.
