A tour of the world through flavours, scents, and crafts in the heart of the city
For an entire weekend, the historic centre of Modena, the capital of the province of the same name in Emilia-Romagna, dresses up and becomes a grand showcase of flavours and crafts from Europe and the world. The European Market transforms the city's busiest streets and squares โ Via Emilia Centro, Piazza Matteotti, Largo Porta Bologna, and Piazza Torre โ into an open path through different cultures, where walking means crossing dozens of countries in just a few hundred metres.
The event brings together over one hundred exhibitors, Italian, European, and international, representing more than thirty nations. The absolute protagonist is food: from Spanish paella to grilled Argentinian meat, from Belgian waffles to Tyrolean dumplings, from Austrian strudel to wurstel with sauerkraut, not to mention Italian excellences like Genoese focaccia, Ligurian farinata, and Bronte pistachio specialities.
Alongside the gastronomic offerings, the market features a large section dedicated to crafts: English ceramics, French essences and perfumes, costume jewellery, fabrics and accessories, bamboo scarves and foulards, leather goods, Scottish kilts, and technical clothing. A stroll that combines taste, discovery, and shopping outside the ordinary commercial experience.
Organised by FIVA-Confcommercio (the federation of public market operators), the European Market of Modena is now a classic on the city's calendar, sponsored by the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Municipality of Modena, and the Chamber of Commerce. As the president of Confcommercio Modena recalls, the event allows you to "travel through the cultures and flavours of the world without leaving the city centre". Admission is free, and the atmosphere is that of great public festivals, with stalls open until late evening.
The 2026 edition of the European Market of Modena took place from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7, with continuous hours from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM.
