The Palaia theatre festival for the European citizens of tomorrow
Europa in scena – Theatre for the European Citizens of Tomorrow is a cultural project promoted by the Municipality of Palaia, in the Province of Pisa, in the heart of Tuscany. The festival is produced by the companies Pensieri di Bo' and Teatro di Bo', active in the Pisan area and founded by Franco Di Corcia Jr, with the co-participation of the Regional Council of Tuscany as part of Europe Day.
The title of the festival immediately declares its vocation: to use the universal language of theatre to talk about Europe, shared citizenship, and the values that unite the new generations. The performances, designed for a wide audience and families, weave together theatrical tradition with contemporary research and a particular focus on under-35 theatre, a hallmark of Teatro di Bo'.
The programme opens with «Peter Pan – 5 and 1/2 Rules for Happiness», directed by Franco Di Corcia Jr and starring actor Mattia Pagni, performed at the Saletta Capaccini in Forcoli. The play compares two characters and questions the meaning of being an adult, amidst daily responsibilities, dreams, and the desire for wonder: an invitation to never lose the curious gaze of childhood.
The events are held in intimate spaces within the Municipality of Palaia, starting from the village of Forcoli, in a close-knit atmosphere that enhances the direct relationship between actors and spectators.
Palaia is a medieval village perched among the hills that stretch between the Era and Arno rivers, guarding a heritage made of parish churches, silent alleys, and views of the Tuscan countryside. A theatre festival like Europa in scena represents a precious opportunity for cultural life in these small centres, capable of bringing art and civic reflection far from the large city theatres.
All performances of the festival are free of charge, with mandatory booking due to limited seating. The festival confirms the commitment of the Municipality of Palaia and local companies to making theatre accessible to the entire community.
The first edition of Europa in scena – Theatre for the European Citizens of Tomorrow opens its programme on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 5:45 PM, at the Saletta Capaccini in Forcoli, a village in the Municipality of Palaia (Pisa). The festival is produced by Pensieri di Bo' and Teatro di Bo' with the co-participation of the Regional Council of Tuscany, as part of Europe Day.
The show inaugurating the festival is «Peter Pan – 5 and 1/2 Rules for Happiness», directed by Franco Di Corcia Jr, featuring actor Mattia Pagni and technical assistance from Mauricio Salinas. A story that questions the meaning of being an adult, amidst responsibilities, dreams, and the desire for wonder.
The complete calendar of subsequent festival events will be announced by the Municipality of Palaia and the organizing companies.
