Estate Tuscolana is the summer cultural festival of the Municipality of Frascati, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region. For over a month, from the summer solstice until the final days of July, the city opens its most beautiful venues—the Villa Torlonia Park with its famous Teatro delle Acque and the Cortile delle Scuderie Aldobrandini, home to the Museo Tuscolano—to a program that blends theatre, concerts, literary meetings, visual arts, and family shows.
The result is an event that is more than just a sequence of evenings: it is a narrative of the city, built around its historical and landscape heritage. The Teatro delle Acque, carved into the park's monumental nymphaeum, with its pools and water features behind the stage, is in itself one of the most scenic settings in Lazio for an open-air performance.
Five festivals in one
The program is organized into thematic sections, each with its own identity and audience:
- Frascati Libris — meetings with authors, presentations, and literary evenings, held in collaboration with the Mondadori Bookstore.
- Frascati On Stage — live music spread throughout the historic center, with dozens of stages animating squares, courtyards, and alleys.
- Estate Tuscolana in Musica — the concert section, curated with I Concerti nel Parco, featuring jazz, singer-songwriter music, and research projects.
- Estate Tuscolana in Prosa — auteur theatre, programmed in collaboration with ATCL, the Multidisciplinary Theatre Circuit of Lazio.
- Estate Tuscolana For Kids — afternoons and evenings dedicated to children, with musical theatre and storytelling.
A nationally acclaimed program
Thanks to collaborations with ATCL and I Concerti nel Parco, the festival brings artists to Frascati who are typically seen at major summer festivals: actors and authors of civil and narrative theatre, television comedians, jazz pianists and singers, as well as evenings linked to major Italian literary awards. Alongside the well-known names, there is always space for the local cultural fabric: choirs, amateur companies, and local associations have their own slots in the program, almost always with free admission.
Frascati, the Tuscolo, and wine
Frascati is the most famous of the Castelli Romani towns, located just over twenty kilometers from Rome on the slopes of the Alban Hills. A city of late-Renaissance and Baroque villas—Villa Aldobrandini, Villa Torlonia, Villa Falconieri—it is known worldwide for its white DOC wine and for the fraschette, traditional taverns where wine is paired with porchetta, cured meats, and local cheeses. Attending an Estate Tuscolana show and then heading down for dinner in the historic center is a well-established ritual for Romans who head up to the Castelli in summer in search of a cool breeze.
An atmosphere to experience
The evenings begin when the heat fades and the park slowly fills up. The open-air seating of the Teatro delle Acque, the ancient trees, the sound of water, and the lights on the nymphaeum create a rare listening environment, very different from an indoor theatre. This is also why several events sell out in the first few days: it is advisable to find out in advance and, where provided, book your tickets.

Estate Tuscolana 2026
The 2026 edition, under the artistic direction of Fabrizio Federici, is divided into five sections: Frascati Libris, Frascati On Stage, Estate Tuscolana in Musica, in Prosa, and For Kids. The opening, from June 19 to 21, coincides with the summer solstice: on June 20, Frascati joins the European Music Day with eighteen live concert stages distributed throughout the historic center.
The heart of the event is the Teatro delle Acque in Villa Torlonia Park, which from July 10 to 26 hosts sixteen consecutive days of drama, singer-songwriter music, and jazz. The theatrical programming is curated in collaboration with ATCL, the musical one with I Concerti nel Parco, and the literary one with Mondadori Bookstore. The Courtyard of the Scuderie Aldobrandini completes the picture with exhibitions and meetings.

The program also includes free shows by local groups: Chi Sarà di Scena APS, Tutti in scena 2.0, the One Voice Choir, and Tink Floyd.

How to get there
By train: FL4 line Rome Termini–Frascati, about 30 minutes; from Frascati station, the historic center and Villa Torlonia are within walking distance. By car: Grande Raccordo Anulare, exit 21–22, then via Tuscolana or via Anagnina towards Frascati; parking is available in the center (pay attention to the evening ZTL limited traffic zone).
