The opening night of the traveling tango festival in the Monti Dauni
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Encuentro – Tango and Latin Lands Festival is a traveling event that traverses the Monti Dauni in the province of Foggia every summer, bringing Argentine tango and Latin American culture to the villages of the Daunian Apennines. Volturino, a small town perched on the mountains north of Foggia, is a key stop on the festival circuit, hosting the opening night and kicking off a week of music, dance, and conviviality that spans across the Daunia and Murgia regions.
During the Volturino stop, the historic town square comes alive in the evening with the street show 'Matear o Morir' by Duo Carcajada, followed by a tango show featuring live music by Sampo y La Vartuli. The performances are accompanied by the preparation and tasting of Argentine asado and other Latin American specialties, turning the evening into a celebration of South American flavors and rhythms open to all, from seasoned dancers to curious onlookers.
Encuentro is the evolution of the 'Biccari come Buenos Aires – Tango Festival', which brought the milonga to the streets of the nearby village of Biccari for three years. Since 2025, the event has taken on a broader identity, embracing the entire universe of 'Latin lands' and becoming a traveling festival: in addition to Volturino, the event visits towns such as Minervino Murge, Volturara Appula, and Lucera, while the heart of the program, including gala milongas and major concerts, remains in Biccari.
Supported by the participating municipalities, including the Municipality of Volturino, and promoted by the Associazione Argentina per il Mondo APS, Encuentro enjoys the patronage of the Puglia Region, the Embassy of the Argentine Republic, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The Volturino stop represents the first date on the calendar, allowing even the smallest villages of the Monti Dauni to experience the energy of tango and promoting the Daunian Apennine territory through an international cultural project.
Following the 2025 edition, which saw Volturino host the opening night of the traveling festival, the Volturino stop of Encuentro – Tango and Latin Lands Festival is expected to return in the summer of 2026 in the Monti Dauni, in the province of Foggia.
Official dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced. The festival is traditionally held in the month of August, traveling between the municipalities of the Daunia and Murgia regions, with the heart of the events located in Biccari. Information regarding the Volturino stop will be updated as soon as the organization announces the official calendar.
The event takes place in Volturino (FG), a village in the Monti Dauni area of the Foggia province, within the historic town center.
By car: from Foggia, you can reach Volturino in about 40-50 minutes by taking the provincial roads toward the Monti Dauni. The main railway station is Foggia, the primary hub in the area, from which you can continue by car or local bus services.
Events in the square are free and open to the public.
Organized by the Associazione Argentina per il Mondo APS in collaboration with the Municipality of Volturino.
