Historical re-enactment of traditional crafts in the 'painted village' of Tonadico

En Giro par i Filò is one of the most beloved summer events in the Primiero valley, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). For over thirty years, it has taken place in the heart of Tonadico, a district of the Primiero San Martino di Castrozza municipality, a village known as a "painted town" for the frescoes and decorated facades that adorn its houses. For a week in mid-August, the historic center turns into a grand narrative of mountain peasant civilization.
The event's name refers to the filò, the ancient evening vigil of rural communities: moments when, in stables and kitchens, women would spin wool or sew while men shelled corn or carved wood, all gathered together to share stories, legends, and memories. The festival revives that atmosphere of togetherness, when work became an occasion for community.
In the cellars, stables, and barns of the historic center, the "Filò workshops" open their doors: authentic workshops where artisans and enthusiasts showcase their expertise. You will encounter chairmakers, cobblers, basket weavers, sculptors, embroiderers, weavers, and many others, often involving visitors directly. There are also re-enactments of veci mes'ceri (old crafts), including cow milking, cheese making, sheep shearing, and wool production.
The event is organized by the ApT San Martino di Castrozza, Primiero e Vanoi in collaboration with the Castel Pietra Cultural Circle and local entities. Admission to the village streets and shows is free: only some activities and workshops require reservations. En Giro par i Filò is an ideal opportunity to discover the authentic Primiero, nestled among the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites and the traditions of a valley that proudly preserves its heritage.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of En Giro par i Filò have not yet been released by the ApT San Martino di Castrozza, Primiero e Vanoi.
