A Village of Emigrants
Filignano, in the province of Isernia, is one of the municipalities in Molise most affected by emigration: many families left from here for the Americas and the rest of Europe — including that of the famous tenor Mario Lanza. The Emigrant Festival was created to honor this bond and celebrate the return of those who come back to their hometown every summer.
Ferragosto of Return
The festival takes place on Ferragosto, August 15th, when the village fills with emigrants and their descendants returning for the holidays. It is a moment of strong emotion and collective identity: families reunite, friendships are renewed, and common roots are rediscovered.
