A spring treasure hunt in Nusco

The Easter Egg Hunt is the annual Easter event that the Pro Loco of Nusco, in collaboration with the Municipality of Nusco, offers to families from the village and neighboring towns. The concept is that of a classic Easter treasure hunt: a park, many hidden eggs, a basket to fill, and an entire afternoon to spend outdoors. Nothing more is needed for the festival to be a success, and the initiative has quickly found its audience among the children of the Alta Irpinia region.

Villa Vecchia, the park hosting the festival

The meeting point is Villa Vecchia, on Via San Giovanni, the green area that opens up just outside the ancient heart of Nusco. It is a convenient space for those arriving with children: lawns, trees, and pathways become the ideal playground for hiding eggs and letting the little ones search for them independently, under the watchful eyes of their parents. From the park, one can also enjoy the view over the valleys that earned Nusco the nickname of "balcony of Irpinia."

How the afternoon unfolds

Alongside the egg hunt, the Pro Loco offers hands-on activities and creative recycling. It is a simple way to talk to children about the environment without turning the afternoon into a lecture: they work with recycled materials, build something to take home, and discover that even cardboard or a container can have a second life. A detail that speaks volumes about the spirit with which the festival was conceived.

Nusco, a stone village in the Alta Irpinia

Nusco is located at an altitude of just over 900 meters, in the province of Avellino, in the heart of inland Campania. The historic center is a maze of medieval alleys, stone arches, and flower-filled balconies, dominated by the remains of the castle and the cathedral. Those arriving for the Easter Egg Hunt can easily combine the festival with a stroll through the village: the two together make for a worthwhile day trip, especially in spring, when the air is clear and the views over the Calore and Ofanto valleys are at their sharpest.

A young but already anticipated event

The event is relatively new: the 2025 edition, the second one, took place on Saturday, April 19th, at Villa Vecchia, starting at 4:00 PM. It is one of those events born from local volunteer work that grows year by year, without large budgets but with great participation. Why it is worth attending

It is not a major event, and it does not claim to be: it is a village festival, free in spirit and generous in its hospitality, where children run free in a park and adults chat in the shade. In a region that often associates spring with food festivals, the Nusco Easter Egg Hunt is one of the few occasions in Irpinia truly designed solely for the little ones.
