The Marsicano Carnival in a summer edition in Luco dei Marsi
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
E-state Mascherati is the summer event that the Municipality of Luco dei Marsi, in the province of L'Aquila and the heart of the Abruzzo Marsica, dedicates to the local carnival tradition. Conceived and managed by the AnimaLuco association—the same organization that promotes the historic Marsicano Carnival—the event brings masks, floats, and confetti back to the streets in the middle of summer, turning the town center into a kaleidoscope of color, music, and special effects.
The format is that of a festival spread throughout the streets and squares of the town. The program kicks off in the afternoon with creative workshops, face painting, and bouncy castles designed for children, followed by a parade with mascots and street performers. As evening falls, the atmosphere heats up: masked groups parade accompanied by roving bands and majorette troupes, while themed food stalls—ranging from neon parties to tropical settings—line the route.
Among the most anticipated elements is the exhibition of the allegorical floats that won awards during the winter edition of the Marsicano Carnival: a way to bring the hard work of the masked groups back to life in the summer and to showcase the craftsmanship and creativity of the Luco districts. The evening concludes with music and a DJ set, in a festive atmosphere that engages residents and visitors from across the Marsica region.
E-state Mascherati is part of the Vacanze Luchesi calendar, the summer program of initiatives that bring Luco dei Marsi to life during the warmer months. Together with other events curated by AnimaLuco throughout the year, it helps keep the town's carnival identity alive and strengthens the sense of community in a village overlooking the ancient Fucino plain in Abruzzo.
The 2026 edition of E-state Mascherati in Luco dei Marsi does not yet have an official date. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to return in August with the usual program of creative workshops for children, masked parades, roving bands, majorettes, and themed food stalls, in addition to the exhibition of the Marsicano Carnival floats. For updated dates and programs, we recommend following the channels of the AnimaLuco association.
Luco dei Marsi is located in the province of L'Aquila, on the Fucino plain. By car, it can be reached from the A25 motorway (Avezzano or Aielli-Celano exit) by continuing along the roads of the Marsica region. The nearest train station is Avezzano, on the Rome-Pescara line, just a few kilometers from the town.
The event is free and open to the public. Events take place in the streets and squares of the center.
As this is an outdoor evening event, it may be useful to bring a light jacket. For updated dates and programs, we recommend checking the social media channels of the AnimaLuco association.
